General XXX 2 Burn FAQ

What equipment do I need to be able to create DVDs on my computer?

You need an Internet connection and a DVD-Writer (DVD-R or DVD+R drive) installed in your computer. The faster the Internet connection the better; in general, a cable or DSL connection will be required if the time delay is to be manageable. The process of creating a DVD requires a great deal of data to be downloaded and processed. Depending on your preferences, you may also want a color printer if you wish to reproduce the artwork supplied with your media; additionally, you may also want to have one or more specialty purpose paper types for printing cover art, liner notes, disc inserts, and CD labels. Naturally, you will also need a writable DVD of a format that your drive supports. Unfortunately, not all DVD players support all DVD+Rs and DVD-Rs; we recommend you check the manual for your DVD player to determine which formats are supported before creating your media with the ObjectCube DVD Wizard.

You are required to have approximately 10 gigabytes of free hard drive space in order to create a DVD. Currently, our software runs only on computers running Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP.

Software FAQ

What kind of software do I need to make this work?

You must download our DVD-burning software in order to process the download and burn the movie to DVD.

Will XXX 2 Burn work on a Mac?

No. Unfortunately, XXX 2 Burn is not available to Mac users.

How do I select which drive will be used to create my DVD?

Under the "Options" menu select the Device Options tab. From there you should be able to select your DVD-writer. The very first time you open the ObjectCube DVD Wizard application this field will be left blank as a default. You will need to use this menu to select your optical drive. After a device has been chosen the first time, your computer will remember your selection for subsequent use. If the chosen device is not capable of writing the media in question - for instance, if you are downloading a DVD but your chosen drive is a CD-writer, you will be prompted to select the appropriate device.

What does "Simulate before writing" mean? What happens if I check this box in the Recorder Options tab?

This feature exists to ensure that your system will properly write the disc you've selected. Before actually writing the media you've downloaded to the disc, your computer performs a simulation of this process; this can be done to verify settings within your system, to ensure that your system can safely write at the selected speed, or to remind you to change something within the ObjectCube DVD Wizard application. Once this has completed, if no issues were found, the process of actually burning your disc will automatically begin; conversely, if problems are encountered, the ObjectCube DVD Wizard will warn you of them.

What does "Use Safe Burn" mean? What happens if I check this box in the Recorder Options tab?

"Safe Burn" is a technology that is a feature of most of the newer CD-RWs on the market. The process is intended to allow the CD-writer or DVD-writer to use its own safety settings to prevent things like buffer overrun and data corruption, and typically burns at a slower speed. With this box unchecked the CD/DVD writer will not use these safety precautions.

If my download or burn fails, or I lose my connection, will I need to re-purchase the DVD and download everything again?

Fortunately, no. Our software uses a series of internal markers that will allow you to log back in and reconnect. This will allow you to continue the process without starting from the beginning. If you experience a problem, simply return to the XXX 2 Burn page of the "My Account" area and click on the download link again. The software will automatically launch and pick up after the last completed track and finish things from that point.

How fast is my CD/DVD writer?

The owner's manual that came with your CD or DVD writer should provide this information. Even if you purchased your computer as a single bundled grouping of components you should have received the manuals for the hardware inside the computer. In most cases, however, you should be able to look at the front of your CD/DVD drive and read the speed right off of the component itself. Alternately, this information is generally available from within Windows: open the "My Computer" folder, right-click on the drive you wish to use to write CDs, and select the Properties entry. A popup will appear; select the "Settings" tab and the system will display under "Device Access Speed" the capabilities of your drive.

How long should it take to create a DVD?

DVDs contain much more data than CDs; it is still feasible to create a DVD quickly but in most cases a CD will be much faster. Typically, the downloads necessary to create a full-length DVD will take about one and a half hours over a cable modem; DSL speeds are highly variable but have been tested at as little as 90 minutes over 6 megabit DSL. The DVD creation process then generally takes about 30 minutes with a 4x DVD-RW, and as little as 8 minutes with a 16x DVD-RW. Of course, relatively short discs will take even less time to download and burn to DVD.

How much hard drive space do I need to create a DVD?

Our software utilizes approximately 10 gigabytes of free space on your hard drive during the process of creating a DVD. This is automatically freed up once the DVD is successfully created.

Can I print things on plain paper and cut them out? (For the jewel case)

Absolutely, you may print on whatever type of paper you would like, however, this may lessen the quality of the artwork that you will be getting. Remember that when you are printing these labels and this artwork that your results may be impacted by your choice of materials.

How do I set the printing options to print the disc label and the case art?

Under the "Options" menu, select the Print Setup tab. From there you will find two drop down selection boxes. The first one will allow you to select the Disc Label paper type. Click on the drop down arrow and you will be able to access the label options we now support. The second drop down is for the case paper type. Again, you will be able to access the paper types that we currently support.

What equipment do I need to be able to watch these DVDs?

The video DVDs produced by the ObjectCube software should play in most recent DVD players, whether in your computer or otherwise. Certain DVD players, especially older models, may have trouble playing certain types of writable DVDs; typically your system will play either DVD-Rs or DVD+Rs, with DVD+RW and DVD-RW being generally less compatible. Some systems will play all of them, others only a limited subset; in most cases, the displayed models will be indicated by a logo on the DVD player, but checking the manual for your DVD player is probably the most reliable solution.
